Specialist Consultants in Multi-Storey Modular Building Design
We understand complexity, but believe in simplicity.
Who We Are
Designing Buildings
for Offsite Manufacture
Systemised Design Group is a specialist building design consultancy focused on multi-storey modular construction in Australia.
We help developers, government departments, architects and manufacturers create better buildings — faster, more efficiently and with less waste — by applying Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) from the earliest stages of design.
Our approach is built on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA): a proven process that considers how a building will be fabricated and assembled before design documentation begins. The result is optimised framing, fewer variations and a significantly reduced construction programme.
Founded by Simon McCarthy, the practice brings together over 25 years of structural engineering experience with a deep knowledge of offsite construction gained across projects in Australia, the UK, Europe, the USA and South-East Asia.

Simon McCarthy
Simon McCarthy is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the Australian building industry. He founded Systemised Design Group to provide specialist structural and DfMA advisory services for multi-storey modular buildings.
Since 2014, Simon has focused on designing permanent modular structures using DfMA, lean construction and offsite fabrication techniques. He has led design teams at firms including Bryden Wood, Sensum Engineering, WGA and Intrax — working on projects spanning housing, education, healthcare, retail and commercial developments.
Simon is regularly invited to speak at industry conferences, contribute to government committees and collaborate with university research teams on the future of industrialised construction in Australia.
What we do
Core Services
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Structural design and certification for multi-storey buildings using DfMA on both modular (3D) and panelised (2D) construction. We optimise column spacing, framing configurations and load-paths for efficient offsite manufacture across every building sector. This includes hybrid construction to utilise both traditional and modern methods of construction (MMC).
DfMA ADVISORY
We enhance building configurations through DfMA integration, value engineering and connection design — from early feasibility through to construction documentation. Less assumptions. Less variations. Better value. In addition, we also offer DfMA Guardian services to hold design teams to decisions made at concept design phase.
